Bruce Marsh came to Hopkins in 1974 from U.C. Berkeley as Assistant Professor. As a geologist he has spent his career studying planetary volcanic and magmatic processes through the combined application of field mapping, laboratory modelling, and theory. Building a school of thought centered on a holistic approach to understanding all facets of the origin and evolution of magma, training 32 Ph.D.’s., and working globally. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, Geological Society of America, Mineralogical Society of America, and the Royal Astronomical Society, and has received some awards.
